September started with Liya's 5-day-long fever of unknown origin, followed by Temesgen's birthday, Auntie Debra's visit, camping at West Point Lake and Misha's 5th birthday! After some changes in her birthday plan, I decided to take a day off and do whatever Misha wants to do on this special day! Our friend, Debra, came over from San Diego, so it made this day even more special!
Our plan for the morning was to go play in the Frog Legs (indoor inflatable playground) with a friend; however, it was closed that day. So, we quickly changed the plan and decided to bake a birthday cake and brownie with a friend (Liya fell asleep). Misha's wish for the birthday cake: "strawberry cake with strawberries on top with pink whip cream." Well, let's see how it goes.

Baking - Liya woke up from her nap!

While waiting for the cake to cool, we hit the pool at our friend's house and played until dark (thank you Chip!).

Then we started decorating the cake.

Liya took an advantage of finishing extra strawberries while Misha was receiving a phone call from Germany for birthday wishes....

So, what do you think of your final product!?! Misha actually made this cake almost all by herself, including slicing the strawberries!

Five years indeed passed so quickly! I remember the morning Misha was born just like yesterday. I remember the lightning in the sky during the labor (my stubbornness for "natural" labor ended up with induction without epidural, sky-is-the-only-limit-dose of Oxytocin, then epidural placement, pushing for about an hour, and emergency C-section due to the lower heart rate of the fetus at each contraction). I also remember watching "Food Channel" all day long during labor, especially my first acquaintance with Ms.Paula Deen, the Madonna of the South. Ms.Paula adding butter repeatedly to every dish was quite astonishing to a Japanese woman in labor in health-conscious Southern California, well not only that, I was quite starving at that time since I was told not to eat anything in case of epidural or surgery. Man, it was a torture! And of course, I did not know then that we would be celebrating the 5th birthday in her domain of the South. And Liya! She was not even here yet. It is so strange that I once had a life without these little girls. I was happy and quite content though. My life was not this complicated and did not require all these time-management and scheduling for 3 people plus 1 (Temesgen). But I am sure I laugh more (oh, should I mention I get angry more, too!?!)
Above all the things, I am truly grateful she is a healthy and happy child! Thank you for all the family and friends who love her like their own. We would not have made it without you!
