Nutcracker 千秋楽

Dear Readers, I am going to tell you about the ending of the famous Nutcracker. When I came back, I had a total meltdown about all my friends. I am going to have to convince Daddy that I want to go to the Nutcracker next year. The Nutcracker is a famouse play which has no voices. If you have seen it, you should get a copy of it because you can watch it all over again. I was an Angle and a Little Party girl. They are both important parts because they are in different scenes. I think the adults were all funny and not taking the Nucracker seriously, until the preformance. Backstage is a very busy place because we have to do the prayer and the squeeze. Backstage, we have to change and change, but yesterday was different because we had to turn in our costumes. But all the hard work paid off because at the end, we got dumped with fake snow and had a great time. I and Liya got 2 bouquets of flowers. Nutcracker Final Practice

Dear Readers, Let me introduce myself. I am Silton. Geronimo Silton. I am substituting for Misha because she is sick.(Not really true! I am not sick,Geronimo Silton the narrator) Misha has been in the Nutcracker and she wants you to know how she has been doing in it.( Now that is true, Geronimo!) Misha has been loving all the great things that has been happening in Nutcracker.( I actually want to tell you about the Nutcracker.) She is a party girl and an Angel.( I love it when you get stuff right) Ms.Carol is her teacher. I know Misha loves her because she says she loves the Nutcracker. ( No more interuptions from me forever.) When Liya wanted to go to the Nutcracker auditions, Misha did not want to come. Ever since she learned all it takes is hard work, she loved it forever more. Misha learned the basics and always knew what was coming with her friends. She knew if they were hurt, lonely, sad, or afraid. Misha is more of the "fun" type to other people who are her friends. Misha is also close to her friend, Mimi. Mimi is very nice to Misha because Misha is very nice to her. Other people think she is innocent and is always nice.( Now is my turn!) I am very pleased to annonce that there is a preformance at a theater, though I think they are all sold out. Isn't that exciting that there will be hundreds of people who are waiting to see all of us that have practiced and took off our vacation time. Honey Bee Kind

Dear Readers, My story today is about the Bee Farm. Susan was nice enough to show us her farm. First, we saw the goats. Queeny was being mean and pushed everyone out of the snack bin. The only real damage Queeny ever did was push on of the kids onto the ground. The goat was right side-up!!!!!! The goats were fed little tiny pellets. I loved the white one. It actually was one of Queeny's daughter! Queeny has 3 daughters. I was scared of feeding the goats because I thought they would nibble on my finger! But then I learned they only have lower teeth. So I convinced Liya to get me some pellets, and she got me some. I held it out to the white calf. Susan was right! It didn't hurt at all! I guess I should trust Susan when she says it doesn't hurt. Then there are the chickens. The chickens go to the top of the tree's and stay there for the night. Then comes the bee's. the bee's produce most of the honey and pollinate the flowers. If the bee's die off, people will have to pollinate the flowers by Who can pollinate the flowers fastest? Not man-kind. Susan says she takes the honey comb from the hive and puts it outside so the wax moth will not get to the honey. ( Go to this website: click here). I watched a movie and it said a moth can sometimes disguise itself to smell like a bee. To a bee, it is not the size that matters, it's the smell that matters.(Isn't that funny?) Africanized bees are very aggressive. They will attack every thing that does not smell like a bee. We watched a movie with Susan and learned a lo about bees. Like:male bees die while mating with a queen, and a moth can disguise itself as a bee(remember what I said about the bees!). Thank you for reading this article that took me 2 days to make! アメフト・デビュー

　大学アメフトの本場、南部にやってきて丸8年。昔からそうですが、興味のないことは知識・関心ゼロで、いまだにルールもさっぱりです。大学アメフトコーチのお給料が、どうして大学長より高いのか、それも私にはわかりません。オーバーン大学対アラバマ大学は宿敵で、毎年感謝祭後の土曜日にアイロン・ボールと呼ばれる試合があります（スーパーボールの地域バージョン）。去年、最後の1秒でオーバーンが奇跡の勝利をつかんだアイロン・ボールの夜も、娘たちと3人でフローズンの映画を見て、クリスマスのデコレーションを見に近くのゴルフ場まで行き、「試合の日は空いてていいねー」と言っていたほどです。がしかし、今年は違いますぞよ。スケジュールはおろか、結果もほぼ把握しています。というのは、娘たちがバレエ「くるみ割り人形」に出る資金稼ぎ。この舞台は地域のアマチュアで構成されていて、参加費は低額に抑え、その代わり、キャスト（か家族）は全員、最低3回、アメフトの試合時に、売店で働くことが義務付けられています（写真）。このスタジアム、入る人、5万人以上。なんでもない食べ物・飲み物を扱う「売店」でも、一晩の売り上げが250万円以上になることも。まー忙しや忙しや。「くるみ割り人形」の舞台を作り上げるのに経費は毎年400万円程度。その一部を参加費、チケット代でまかないますが、内訳の多くはこの｢売店」から。その売り上げから、芸術振興の目的で、オーバーン市内の3年生をすべて観劇に招待しています（バス代含め）。娘のためなら、えんやこら。ちなみに私が「働き」に出ている間、テメスゲンと娘たちは毎回ローラースケート場に繰り出していたようです。「くるみ割り人形」いよいよ、来週開幕です。（写真右：オーバーン大学が勝利した夜は、大学付近の木に証として、ファンがトイレットペーパーを投げて「飾りつけ」します。夜の12時、まだファンでゴッタ返しています。日本だったら、終電逃しちゃうな。）

My Thanksgiving Luncheon

Dear Readers, I am so sorry I have not written in a couple months,but those are months that were short. Anyways, I had a thanksgiving luncheon with my mom, Noriko. She was able to make it to Liya's and my thanksgiving luncheons. Tell me if you had a wonderful weekend and a happy thanksgiving. I really basically had the same thing as Liya's. You will not believe what happened. After that, she stayed with me for a whole 2 minutes at recess! She also talked and chit-chatted about me with Mrs.Price, my 3rd grade teacher for this year. She even told me that I was reading big books that were for 7th and 8th graders. I'm not trying to complain, but I am perfectly fine with big books.;);););) I mean I was not laughing, but I saw mommy and Mrs.Price laughing.And last weekend, we went to Atlanta,Georgia. 出張と称して

ただいま、学会でアトランタ滞在中です。寒い！寒波の影響で、南部でも気温は一ケタ台でしょう。ほんとに寒い！上の写真は、先月カリフォルニアに学会のため出張と称して、学会の始まる前日、有志を募ってカリフォルニア中部沿岸（モンテレイ）でカヤックをしたときのものです。モンテレイは、アメリカで3箇所のみあるラッコの自然生息地で、アシカ、アザラシに加えて、カヤックをしていると、あちらこちらにラッコが浮かんでいる！カチカチやっている！ラッコはアシカ達に比べて新陳代謝がよいそうで、エネルギー節約のため、脇に貝割用の石をはさんだまま、海底・川底の貝を探しにいきそうです。そして、ガイドさんが浅瀬の海底から探し出した得体のしれないもの、Purple Hare（紫ウサギ）と呼ばれる両生類だそうです。こわがって、紫のインクをたくさん噴出していました・・・急に水の外に引き上げれられて可愛そうに。学会は３日間。この学会はいつも朝食から夕食まで、ずっと一緒に行動するので体力的には少しきつめですが、ワインの醸成所（ワイナリー）やサクラメントにも連れて行ってもらい、学会の後には、8年くらい会っていなかったサンディエゴ時代のドイツ人の友達にも会え、おいしいタイ料理を一緒に食べて、有意義なカリフォルニアへの出張でした。そして夜行便で戻ったその足で統計学の授業に・・・・これは辛かった（涙）。秋学期ももう終盤。残り数週間、がんばります。

アラバマも秋です

アラバマの味覚便り、まずは海老。メキシコ湾までは車で3時間ほどかかりますが、オーバーン大学の水産学部が毎年秋に、自分たちで養殖した海老を売って奨学金に当てています。今回は2.5キロほど買って(30ドル）、3分の1の量を、娘たちと頭、背ワタ、殻をとって、海老チリに。[野菜の写真]病院での仕事に加え、翻訳と大学院の宿題が次から次へと押し寄せ、かなり無視されてしまった我が家の畑。寛大な心で、自生してくれました（涙）。これは先週の収穫。[栗の写真]そしてこちらは友人宅で毎年拾う栗。出張の前2日間かけて、栗を蒸して、切り込みをいれ、オーブンで焼き栗に。そして、違う友人からもらったCrabapple（野生りんご）をジャムにしたり、収穫の秋ならではの「やることリスト」。大地の恵みに感謝です。[Ag Discoveryの写真]そして最後の4写真は、アラバマ州が政府の援助を受けて、毎年9月に開く農業・酪農祭。りんごを絞ってジュースにしたり、迷路になったトウモロコシ畑で遊んだり、さつまいもを掘ったり、入場無料でやること、学ぶこと盛りだくさん。日本も果物狩りの時期は過ぎたかな。青森なら、芋煮やきのこ汁、ハタハタやお魚がおいしい季節だなー。皆さんも秋の味覚、楽しんでくださいね。

ご無沙汰してます

皆さん、ご無沙汰にもほどがありますね。長らくお休みしまして、申し訳ありません！最近、「ブログが更新されていないけど、大丈夫ですか？」という声があちらこちらから、聞こえております。みーんな元気なのですが、次から次へとイベント、書きたいことが出てくるにも関わらず、そうする時間が取れないまま、時が過ぎてしまったわけです。特に夏の女3人旅のことは、ぜひ書きたいのですが、いつになることやら。アラバマも10月半ばを過ぎ、秋の気配です。毎年恒例、栗拾いも終わり、もう庭のサツマイモも収穫できる頃です。またちょこちょこと、更新させて頂きますので、よろしくお付き合いのほどを。ちなみに現在、サンフランシスコへ向かう飛行機の中。明日夜からの学会のためですが、明日は朝から有志でカヤッキング！アレルギーと風邪がまじって、100％の体調ではないですが、張り切ってカヤックしてこようと思います。皆さんも、季節の変わり目、風邪などひきませんように。上は9月、級友の投票で最優秀生徒賞をもらったミーシャ（日本語で書くと大げさに見えますが・・・）と、学校で一年生の親善大使に選ばれて、市の教育員会と話をする「初仕事」をした日の理矢の写真です。家ではなんだかんだヤンチャを言っても、外ではちゃんとやっているようで、ほっとしている母より。

ご褒美

　この1年、学校でがんばったご褒美として、いくつか提示した中で二人が選んだのはネイル・サロン。どうしてフット・バスをするのか、何の液体をかけるのか、理矢は質問攻めにしていましたが、ベトナム人のおじさん達は首を傾げるばかり。英語が話せる若いお兄さんが、横からちょいちょい助け舟を。ちなみに、アメリカのネイルサロンは、ほとんどベトナム系の人達で運営されています。できあがりはこちら。ミーシャは濃い紫、オレンジが理矢。これを励みにまた来年もがんばっておくれ。でも、またネイルサロンに来たい時は、自分のお小遣いで払ってね（笑）。

Liya Graduation

先週の火曜日、理矢が2年間通ったモンテスーリの学校を卒業した。モンテスーリは高等教育まであるのだが、オーバーンの学校は20人限定の小さい学校なので、6歳児までのカリキュラムになっている。各生徒の力量を見分けながら、それぞれ違うプロジェクトを進めていくモンテスーリ教育では、一人の先生が受け持てるのは6-7人程度。理矢だけでなく、級友の子達も本当にいろんなことができるようになった。中国語、ダンス・新体操、バイオリン、畑仕事もカリキュラムに入っているので、勉強だけでなく、いろいろなことが経験できるのも、この学校の特徴。これはオーナー兼校長先生のカム先生に、修了証書と優秀賞を頂いたときの写真。

この学校は親御さんたちのサポートも強く、写真に移っている舞台も、お父さんたちで去年の夏作った。今まで季節ごとにパフォーマンスがあったが、卒業パフォーマンスは（もちろん）FrozenのLet It Go。

　カム先生に理矢が別れ際言われた言葉：Don't let anyone stop you from learning.　彼女の潜在能力を深く理解してくれ、私達も適切なアドバイスを折々いただいた。これからも、迷ったことがあったら、相談させてもらいたい。さあ、ひとまずは夏を満喫、乗り切りましょう！

Dance Recital 2014

Hello kids and parents! I will tell you about my recital.Here is our order of our dances.Jazz,Tap,Tumbling,and Ballet.The jazz dance is steady and the song is Fun,Fun,Fun from Despecable Me.Our tap dance is serious and the song is Cups.Our tumbling dance is fast and the song is:When Will I see you Again from Wreck it Ralph.Our ballet dance is slow and the song is:Carnival of the Animals,the swan type.So,When it was cups and I was doing my solo,the light shown down on me.I did not have any solo after Tap dance.Thank you for reading!(My mom took some pics) Thanks! 今年も無事、ダンスの発表会が終了しました。例年より3週間ほど早かったこともあり、先生側にはいつもの慌しさに一層拍車がかかったようですが、終わってみればすべて良し。今回はバレエ、タップ、ジャズ、そしてタンブリング（マット運動のようなもの）。これは理矢。

こちらはミーシャ。ミーシャは最近タップに力を入れているようです。

　 ダンスもこれで4年目終了。まとめ上手で、厳しさの中にもユーモア、愛情があふれるキャシー先生にずっと指導してもらい、本当に感謝しています。プロの人の写真が出来上がったら、また更新しまーす。それまでは、ちょっとボケ目のママ写真で許してね:-)。
