Bike Bash 2014

Yesterday at the bike bash,we did all fun stuff.But the worst part was I missed the pinata. Then I took the 3 mile ride. It was harder than I thought! I thought I was going to die without water!But last year,they gave us water.And then we had hills that were really steep. And when I went down the hills,I felt refreshed with the air in my face. I felt like I was free and in the wild! But then I noticed that no air was coming to me. Then came the steepest hill of all. Richland's hill. It was so hard that my sis beat me just like that! I thought little sis should stay behind me. Then I finally beat my sis. And I rode the coolest tricycle that was ever made!!!!! It's one of these things that your on the ground and you petal with your feet and on the right hand side,there is a stop control. Oysters

　Hello again my fellow people who read my blog!I am going to tell you about when my family and I went to this place called "KJ".We all loved the oysters that they gave us.Everyone except my sister.She didn't have the heart to eat one because she thought it was disgusting. But I thought it tasted like the ocean!My mom said it isn't natural for a girl like me to eat an oyster. Why did my mom say that we should go to KJ"s?I think you should be asking yourself that right now.She took us to KJ"s because our friend said we should go there because they had the most yummiest oysters in the world!!!And what did he mean by yummiest?He meant like totally cool and yummy and awesome and polite and good desserts and good mud pies.You can have mud pies for dessert.And they taste like chocolate brownies with marshmallow and chocolate cream.And when I mean delicious,I mean like super-x-yummy for dessert. 牧場見学

　今週は大学の春休み。とはいっても、病院は半日、患者さんの受付があったし、翻訳が3本入っているので、休みらしい休みではありませんでしたが、金曜はお休みをもらって、理矢の学校からクラスメートのお父さんの牧場へ遠足に行くというので、一緒に行ってきました。牧場・農場という言葉は、本当に誘惑です。このお友達のお父さんは消防士でもあり、お母さんは馬の獣医内科医です。ブリザードという名前の馬に、一人ひとり乗せてもらい、そして（元）軍のトラックで5分ほどのところにある肉牛の放牧場に移動。その後、馬のエサになる穀物を育てている場所（上の写真で、きれいな芝生に見えるところ）でランチを食べました。まわりにはテントウムシがいっぱい。丸々として大きい、なんて色の鮮やかなテントウムシ！これだけの土地と動物を管理するのは、本当に大変だと思いますが、あこがれるー！大学でも、酪農育ちの学生達は、少々のことで不平を言ったりせず、よく気がつき、物を頼んでもすぐに行動に移してくれます。時代が、どんどん電化・デジタル化し、楽なほうへ、そしてすぐ回答が得られる世の中で、次世代の総合的な忍耐さは下がっていると思います。そんな中、酪農育ちの若者の働く姿勢が新鮮。ビバ酪農！今日も感謝して、乳製品、肉製品を頂きます！

懐かしの場所

Being at a softball field brings me back lots of memories of high school. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Auburn University vs. Louisiana State game. Misha was really into the game, but Liya would not care less (her eyes were on the inflatable behind the seats). 先週、ミーシャが小学校でオーバーン大学ソフトボールの試合のちらしをもらってきたので、テメスゲンのいない週末、我が家女3人でソフトの試合を見に行ってきた。私はあまりスポーツに興味がない。南部に来て7年、今でもフットボールの試合はルールも知らないし、10分以上見たことがないと思う。体は硬く、瞬発力もなく、ボール競技はまったくダメの太っちょだった私は、そういう競技がほとんどの学校体育が苦手で、自分に向いているものが見つかるまでは、自分には運動全部が向いていないと思っていた。そんな私が何を思ったか、高校に入学して、ソフト部のマネージャーになった。まったく知らなかったのだが、世の中では「お嬢さん学校」だと思われていたその学校は、文武両道を重んじていてインターハイには毎年いくつもの部が入賞していたし、国体選手、オリンピック選手も輩出していた。ソフト部もそのひとつで、一年中練習。ルールもわからなかったので、最初、「グランドに水をまいて」と頼まれ、まいていたら「そこはファールだから関係ない！」とのこと。それが最後にはスコア・ブックも書けるようになった。強いチームなので、合宿・遠征も多く、専用バスで仙台から四国、静岡の三島には何回行ったことか。そしてハワイとロスにも試合で行った。合宿のときは、もう一人のマネージャーと二人で、約30人の食事の買出しと調理をした。同学年は13人、活躍・スランプの時期はみな違うので毎日全員が楽しく、というわけにはいかないけれど、ちょっと変わった監督のもと、一致団結。みなでお互いを励ましあい、本当にいい3年間だった。メンバーたちは「ブログを読んでるよ」と夏の再会時に言ってくれ、今でも大切な仲間である。とまあ、感傷に浸りながら、はじめてソフトボールの試合をみるミーシャと理矢にルールを（ちょっと得意げに）説明しながら、いろいろ日本と違ってるところがあったので、紹介したい。といっても、日本では甲子園野球、インターハイ、社会人ソフトはよく見たものの、大学ソフトは見たことはないので、もしかしたら、日本でもそうなのかも。 １．プレーヤーのお姉さん達、マスカラはもちろん、メークばっちりで、髪の毛も全員長かった。しかもユニフォームにマッチしたリボンをしている。キャッチャーのお姉さんが通りかかったとき、面の下に、きっちりアイシャドーとマスカラをしてあったのを見て、びっくり。２．ソフト専用のグランドで、バッターの顔写真がポップな歌とともに、電光掲示板に現れる。３．守備・攻撃の変わり目には、流行の歌が流れる。４．最後は整列しておじぎではなく、それぞれ列になって、歩きながらハイ・ファイブをしていた。５．試合の後、特にちびっ子ファンのため、グランドでサイン会、そして子供達はベースを一回りさせてもらい、プレーヤー気分。６．アナウンサーの人もいて、その人はホットドックを食べながら、昔中森明菜がもっていたような、銀の四角いマイクでアナウンスしていた。以上、この試合は決勝戦でも何でもなく、ただの日曜午後の練習試合のようなもの。LSUのピッチャーが、なかなかストライクを入れれず、かわいそうだったけど、オーバーン側は長身でスタミナのありそうなピッチャーに加え、ダブルプレーも2回、ボール（フライ）のダイビング・キャッチあり。アメリカのこうした徹底したファンへのサービスが、幅広いプレーヤー・ファンを作るのかな。ちなみにチケットは一人5ドルでした。

ハイチ・レポート

Picture of a home to a family of 5 in Haiti. テメスゲンがハイチに行っている。今回で3-4回目。国際的支援プロジェクトで、ハイチに研究・診断所を設立する目的で、タスキギーからも数人が交代で現地入り。アメリカ人に加え、インド・エチオピア・スーダン・ナイジェリア出身の教授陣で、物のない中で育った彼らでさえ目を覆いたくなる「貧困」らしい。テメスゲンも、電気・ガス・水道のない家で育ち、近くの水汲み場で水を汲んでくる生活だった。エチオピアのお父さん達の家は、今でも電気・ガス・水道はない。ただ、彼らの場合は、テメスゲンと弟が不便だろうと町に土地を買ってあげたのに、そこに住むより、今の村にいたいという希望のもとの生活。選択肢がないわけではない。今回はテメスゲン単独の出張で、今までのルートと違い、研究・診断所のできる町ではなく、もっと貧しい地域に行ったということだった。テメスゲンのメールの最後の一言は「不平を言ってはいけない」。帰ってきたら、ぜひ彼の言葉でハイチを報告を書いてもらいたいと思います。追伸：フルーツの種類が豊富でとてもおいしいということだったので、土地を買って畑・果樹園を作ろうと言っておきました。

[Misha writes again to tell HER SIDE of the story] Thank you Hiroko for posting on my blog!And now I would really like for you guys to hear about our own setsubun in Auburn!So as I was saying,let me tell you about our very own setsubun story!So,it all started when Noriko thought that it might be fun if we had a little Japanese party with my friend named Ruca. So she invited Ruca and we started playing.And the monsters came to find us,we started throwing peanuts at them!And the monster got me!But I got away.And no matter how hard we tried,the monsters where never defeated!But right then they went back outside.And then we stared telling what happened.And they thought we were crazy!And then we told them that they were the monsters and they handed our moms the masks that they wore and we started picking up the peanuts so we could eat them right off the ground!But I did not eat any of the peanuts because I do not like them.And that is my story!Love,Misha

Snow Mountain

[Misha writes] We just got back from stone mountain.But I want to tell you about it.First I really wanted to go sleigh riding,But they did not open until like maybe 6:45 or something.And Our little Liya was just about to turn six!!!!!!!And I am eight.And as the time passed,my dad and me built a secret cave.But then we got too hungry,so we went to a fast food restaurant and ate there.But then I wanted to see if anyone trampled over the secret cave,AND THEY DID!Then my dad and I had to rebuild it.Oh No!It is time for me to go to school!See you later!
