　Misha and her schoolmates did a wonderful job at the Multi-Cultural Holiday Program at school last Friday (12/16/2011). This was the last of the nine songs they sang during their program. This multi-cultural program has been the tradition, they said, believing the concept of "We are all alike and we are all different, too. We can be one family. You've learned about me and I've learned about you."..." We have learned that each student in our school celebrates differently in the month of December." I thought this is quite a brave statement to make in the Deep South, but however strongly each one of the school employees or students believe, I am quite proud that they state that in the official program. We wish you all a happy and safe holiday in whichever way you choose to celebrate! (or not to celebrate!) これは、先週の金曜日、ミーシャの学校で催されたホリデイ・プログラムの一曲。このグループは、この他にも８曲、踊りや楽器を使って、クワンザ（主にアフリカ系アメリカ人の文化）やラ・ナビダード（原曲はスペイン語）など、いろいろな文化・言語の曲を歌ってくれた。地理学的にアメリカの「聖書帯（バイブル・ベルト）」と呼ばれるこの南部で、キリスト教以外の宗教・文化を認識する、という考え。最近の移民法にも見られるように、古典的・閉鎖的なアラバマで育つ子供たちに、一筋の光が差してるのかな。 ちなみにクワンザの説明はこちらをクリック。私の心の故郷（！）東アフリカのスワヒリ語が語源。若いころ、いろんな人たちに出会って、キリストの外見、誕生日等に関して、アフリカ系アメリカ人の間にたくさんの疑問があることを知りました。せっかくの年末・年始だから、自分たちの祝いたいように祝えば、それが一番なんじゃないかと、リベラル（自由）宗教観を持つ私は思いますが。皆さんも、体に気をつけて年末をお過ごしください。私も忘年会で、居酒屋にいきたいなー。行かれる方は、私の分まで「ほっけ」と「もつ煮」食べてね。
